He Lifts You Up

In honor of Father’s Day this weekend, I have a short story to share with you that I heard from a well known speaker.

The story is about a young child who had recently lost her father.   The mom of this child wanted to bring some comfort to her child and thought that a trip to the zoo would be a perfect place to get their minds off of their sorrow.  As the daughter was standing behind a block wall on the tips of her toes, trying to see the different animals on the other side of the wall, a little girl and her father came up right next to them to view the animals as well.  Just like her, the little girl was not tall enough to see over the wall so her father lifted her up and placed her on his shoulders.  As soon as she saw the little girl’s father lift up his daughter, sorrow flooded her heart and she turned to her mom and said, “Mom, I will never be able to see over the wall.”  What a profound statement from a little girl that had a far reaching meaning.   In other words, “I will never have a father to lift me up on his shoulders and show me things in life that only a loving father can teach.” Hopefully, she has learned what I learned in my life, as I had also lost my father when I was very young, that there is a “Heavenly Father” that knows our name and whose right hand guides us and upholds us.

Rejoice if you have been blessed to be able to build a loving relationship with your earthly father! Jump for joy if you have built a loving relationship with your heavenly Father, for He will lift you upon His shoulders and take you to heights that are unimaginable by man!!!

“For great is Your love, higher than the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” Psalm 108:4
